San Francisco Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella has undergone surgery on his left Achilles tendon that could bring him back to the field at some point during spring training.
The Giants estimated the recovery time at four months, far less than the 12 months that a full Achilles repair takes. The teams show up for spring training in mid-February.

La Stella, 32, hit .250 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 76 games last season, her first with the Giants. He missed three months with a hamstring strain. In five games of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was 3-for-9 with two walks and one run.
In eight seasons with five different teams, La Stella is a .270 hitter with 38 home runs and 190 RBIs. The Atlanta Braves’ 2011 eighth-round pick was named the 2019 American League All-Star as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
