Mother and son are the latest recruits to the South Wales accountancy firm

Ashmole & Co are delighted to announce that Claire Ibbitson and her eldest son, Rhys, of Capel Hendre, have both recently started working for the accounting firm. Claire is based in Llandeilo and Rhys works in the Ammanford office.

For over 14 years Claire has worked in education, teaching all levels of accounting at Coleg Sir Gar and Gower College in Swansea. Claire has actually trained a significant number of Ashmole and Co employees over the years and helped them achieve their AAT and ACCA qualifications!

Now that Claire’s children are older – Rhys is 18 and her younger sister, Sara, 16 – Claire has made the decision to return to practice and joined Ashmole & Co as a graduate accountant. Prior to teaching she trained at Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) in Swansea and worked as a financial controller in the travel and incentive industry.

Welcoming Claire to the team, Ceri Llwyd, Partner in the Llandeilo and Llandovery Ashmole & Co offices, said: “Claire’s appointment will strengthen our entire team. We are delighted that she is joining us. Thanks to Claire’s extensive experience, we can provide our local clients with high quality auditing, accounting and tax services. We are also fortunate that Claire has agreed to give private lessons to our trainee accountants.

Ashmole & Co currently has a dozen trainee accountants and one of them is Claire’s son, Rhys. Rhys Ibbitson attended Ysgol Dyffryn Aman until Grade 11 when he chose to leave school and start an AAT Level 2 course in Accounting in September 2020. He also started at Ashmole & Co as a trainee.

Rhys said: “My family and I are delighted to have had this opportunity to gain qualifications, while having the corresponding practical experience. Initially it was difficult to absorb so much information while learning the basic tasks, but over time it definitely became less difficult. Seeing the improvement in myself and being able to perform tasks at a high level is the most rewarding part of the job.

On a day-to-day basis, Rhys helps the team complete VAT returns, takes customers’ phone calls and helps them answer their questions.

Laura Craddock, partner in Ashmole & Co’s office in Ammanford, said: “As we are one of the largest chartered accountancy firms in Wales, we often have job opportunities for people enthusiastic, skilled and unskilled within the organization. If you think you have what it takes to be part of our dynamic team, please send an email, with your CV attached, to [email protected]. You can also apply for one of the specific vacancies listed on our website: www.ashmole.co.uk. “
