The manhunt for the murder suspect, Michael “Mike” Rodriguez, is over. The 28-year-old Lufkin man was arrested moments ago in the 2200 block of North Raguet Street after officers located him using information from a Crime Stoppers tip-off .
Rodriguez is a suspect in the deaths of Carolyn Price, 68, and Cecil Sheffield, 77. A family member found the deceased elderly couple at their home around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of Home Avenue, located near Herty Elementary School.
Late Thursday afternoon, the investigation led detectives to believe that Rodriguez was involved in the murder of the two individuals. This led authorities to issue a statement asking residents to monitor Rodriguez and ask them to share any information that could lead to his capture. This obviously paid off as an anonymous citizen showed up with information that led to his arrest.
Rodriguez has a history of violence with 18 previous arrests in Angelina County on charges of aggravated assault with a lethal weapon, involvement in organized criminal activity, possession of a controlled substance, assault / violence family and CFA. Many who have commented on the Facebook posts regarding his whereabouts have expressed concern about how someone with such a violent history would not be behind bars.
Lufkin Police will release more information regarding the investigation as the case unfolds. Please continue to extend your prayers to all who have been affected by this terrible crime.
